try and make it look good

The great thing about having a personal blog is that I can be a tad more blunt here as it’s a personal opinion and no one has to share it.

I am currently working online in an industry that for the most part requires you to have 1. something to say or sell and 2. have something that looks like it was done by a professional and not a 5 year old.

I just recently was surfing a traffic exchange and this horrible banner came up and I thought to myself “Who in there right mind would click that ugly and unprofessional thing”. I was actually shocked that someone would even bother to post such a thing.

But this is not the first time I’ve come across what I consider to be crap. It happens all the time as I surf traffic exchanges.
I see people trying to sell me stuff with splash pages, sqeeze pages and banners that look like they were done by a child.
Why should I bother to take you serious when it’s obvious you don’t take yourself or your promotions serious?

To me when I see a page that looks like crap it means the following:
1. Not enough money was invested to make a product look decent.
2. You actually don’t have money and just want to take mine.
3. It looks like crap so what your pushing must be crap.
4. Your really have no idea what your doing.

Now don’t get me wrong I am not expecting perfection but what I am looking for is someone who took a decent amount of time to try and make it look as good as possible.

I don’t think I am alone in this feeling, at least I shouldn’t be anyway.
Do you really want to buy something or join something that looks like it was done by the owners kids?

There are billions of resources at your finger tips, Use them!
Do searches, join forums and other business outlets and get to know people who can help you to not only learn but make and market a decent product.

If you can’t do it, find someone who is capable of doing it.
Choosing to do it yourself could mean the loss of customers, I sure know that if I see your crap I am passing by it.

#1 Shanni :

As a designer, I couldn’t agree more. I could rant this with anyone all day – no banner or referral content is just as effective and pointless as one that is amateur and unprofessional. In fact it is downright insulting to those who take time to design and develop with utmost professionalism. I feel this way about any business website – professionalism right from the very start in every facet, or none at all. Thanks for the post Tami

Hugs,

Shanni
